Ana Bender
Bender's experimental work is always associated with images, words and new languages. In this event, she presents a short film made in 2013 while she was visiting her grandparents in their small village, situated in the south of Brasil. “This little film was created in a moment of pause and nostalgia. I called it Profono Blue because this is the name of the music I selected to represent the beauty and simplicity of that moment”. Based in Brazil, Bender teaches Fashion and Design at bachelors and masters level courses, at a private University, with a focus in innovation.

Marcus Cardoso
Cardoso's photography is full of poetry, simultaneously gentle and intensely powerful. The images selected for Instants, were shot in Brazil, in his favourite place: his little farm, situated near Vitoria da Conquista, in Bahia, which is his parents’ home town and where he has lived for over twenty years. The sequence of images he presents in Instants depicts peaceful scenarios that express the bucolic atmosphere found in the northeast of Brazil. The simplicity of countryside life is embraced and admired. As well as a talented photographer, Cardoso is a veterinary physician with years of practise, whose passion for horses is reflected in his ability to capture their emotions in poignant moments.Marcus Cardoso

Ana Cockerill
Based in London, Cockerill has been exploring painting and various approaches to mixed media and installation for several years; recently, she has become interested in the making of experimental videos and films. The film she presents, Urban Fragments Reframed, takes a critical view of social aspects of urban life — its disorder, stress, and the accumulation of materials' waste and dirt — while inviting the viewer to observe the poetic and aesthetic appeal that can be found in streets and public spaces. Cockerill has master’s degrees in Fine Art and in Art Psychotherapy, acquired at Goldsmiths University, as well as in Art Conservation in Portugal and Brazil.

Carla Fleck
Since 1981, Fleck has been particularly interested in taking snapshots. In Instants, she shows two series of photographs: Raspas, composed by images captured throughout London from ripped and abandoned advertising posters, which are generally ignored and perceived as worthless leftovers by passersby, and Flowing Through Streets, which reveals the expressions of people as they flow through the streets, engaged in their day-to-day lives. She works and lives in London.

Asafe Ghalib
Ghalib is a London based art photographer and film maker from Rio de Janeiro. He's presenting his short film, Back Home, which offers an intimate view of the fears, places and private moments that have marked his life. This film is part of his series entitled Nightmare Exhibition. For Ghalib, this series is not an attempt to deliver a pure ‘truth’, but a reconstruction of his own reality through the understanding of the realities of others.

Marcia Mar
Marcia Mar is a London-based Brazilian multi-media artist as well as performance artist, poet, singer and experimental musician. She describes her work as being entirely derived from “sensations, perceptions, dreams and every aspect of life's poetic observations”. Further, her imagery is informed by both syncretism and multiculturalism through which she explores ethnic symbolism by incorporating genetic codes into her works. Marcia’s contributions to Instants include the short film - Silent Peace (O Silêncio da Paz), which is based on her own song Breath of Life, composed as a consequence of becoming aware of the decrease in child mortality rates in Brazil. She will also present an interactive, empathetic performance - Instant Reflexions - during which, members of the public will be invited to share stories about the best experiences of their lives. This performance was inspired by the artist's own near-death experience, and it is based on the concept that when we approach the moment of death, the highlights of our lives are revived in our mind. She was awarded 'Best Brazilian Visual Artist in the UK’ at the Brazilian International Press Awards in 2012.

Silvio Severino
Photographer, GIF animation and collage artist, Sivio Severino makes highly personal pieces. His work explores the notions of beauty, gender, and sexuality in the capitalist society. Silvio diverts the images away from their original intended purpose, and creates a personal view of the relationship between the urban and the natural world. He further deconstructs the perceived perception of human inter-relationships, portrayed by the media and advertising, and reconstructs them into more powerful images, by employing a surrealist style. The resulting works show unexpected perceptions of contemporary culture and iconography. He works and lives in Budapest, Hungary.
